Jim Redpath is the director of the commercial business unit at HLB Tautges Redpath which includes all tax and audit services. He also serves on the company Board of Directors. Jim specializes in business structuring, ownership succession and ESOP issues as well as corporate, partnership, individual and estate/gift tax planning and consulting on both national and international levels. Understanding the tax law and performing strategic planning with his clients is his passion. He has extensive experience in advising individuals, families and closely held businesses on tax matters.
Jim serves as the Chairman of the Advisory Board for the national S Corporation Association. As Chairman, Jim works with Advisory Board members to initiate and lead discussions with the S Corporation Association Board of Directors on key issues facing S Corps, and he is actively involved with the federal legislative efforts of the S Corporation Association. In addition, Jim is an active member of ESCA (Employee Owned S Corporations of America), an organization that provides a voice for the Subchapter S Corp ESOP community in Washington, D.C.
Jim graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting. He received the third highest score in the nation on the November 1980 CPA exam, which also was the highest score in Minnesota for the sitting. He also has taught several tax courses at local universities. Before joining HLB Tautges Redpath, Ltd., Jim gained experience at one of the former Big Eight accounting firms, but decided early on he prefers the smaller firm where he can provide a broader range of client services.
Jim is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants. He and his wife Janet live in Stillwater, Minn.
